NYU Campus |
Crystal - Jr. in HS:
On July 22nd and July 23rd, I along with other members of IPRIDE, had the opportunity to visit The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and New York University (NYU). We went on a two hour tour at both campuses which included an information session where we learnt about what opportunities each school offered and what fields the school catered to. At FIT, since its a specialized school, most of the majors were directed towards fashion, cosmetic and fragrance marketing as well as the creation of clothing and accessories. FIT also offers a great summer program for high school and middle students. At NYU, the major options were a lot more well rounded and catered to a lot more career options. At both schools, you could travel abroad and you would be required to learn the vernacular of the country in which you wish to travel to. Personally, NYU sparked my interest more because of the environment you would be taking your classes in. NYU is not a gated community, so you would become just another New Yorker once you walked out of the residents hall. Also, as a high school student, I can sit in on classes throughout the school year to learn more about a particular class, major or professor. I'm excited I had the opportunity to tour these schools and I'm looking forward to exploring more and to seeing which school suits me best.
Danielle - recent HS graduate from Canada:
My college tours were a great experience because I learned a lot and it was a good refresher for me because I am starting college in a few months. These tours reminded me that its important to take school seriously. Seeing the different campuses and listening to the professors was very exciting because you get to see what every school has to offer. Each school has the same objective in being that they want you to be a part of their school and while you're there they want to make sure that you have the best possible college experience ever. The information was presented in different ways which was great and it shows you that the school has taken time to put their information together. The college students doing the tour were fantastic; they were very patient and informative. The students made sure that you understood everything that they were saying and made sure to
answer all the questions the participants asked. The tour took you to places like the library, the popular places where the students hang out, the cafe and the dorm rooms. They showed you all of their historical spots and interesting things about the campus that you might like. The two tours at NYU and FIT definitely caught my attention and made a Canadian student like me wanting to move to New York City to be a part of the college life that these schools have to offer.
