So far this summer I’ve had the opportunity to read the book Grace, Gold, and Glory by Gabrielle Douglas. This book has inspired me to go for my dreams and to NEVER give up.
I picked this book to start out my summer reading because a really good friend of mine recommended it to me. I’m so glad I did. Two thumbs up!
Gabby had a lot of great influences in her life. Gabby had a family who really loved and cared for her. Her biggest influence and supporter was her mother. Gabby’s mother encouraged Gabby to not give up on her dreams of being a great gymnast even when she fell. Even though Gabby did not have her father much in her life she still interacted with him, and that always kept Gabby going.
Her brother John and her sister Joyelle always cheered her up and was there for her. Gabby’s coach Chow really gave her that push to be the best that she could be. When Gabby wanted to quit gymnastics, because she missed her family, they were all there to talk Gabby out of quitting.
Thankfully, Gabby listened and did not quit. If she had quit, she would not have been in the position she is today. Today, Gabby Douglas is an Olympic Gold medalist and is the first African American woman to ever receive an all around Olympic gold!!!
Overall, I thought the book was a great read and I highly recommend it. I recommend this book and I think it will have an influence on you like it did on me.
