Description: Proud achievements, fast friendships, and great fun are the rewards of a summer at Birch Rock.  For boys 7 to 15, we offer the finest of a vanishing experience: traditional rustic camping in a small, supportive community that will capture their hearts.
Birch Rock Camp came to life in 1926 on the shores of Lake McWain, based on the founders' simple but powerful idea: home and school aren't enough for boys to build self-reliance and character.  Close contact with nature is also essential.  The founders—teachers and camp counselors— were compelled by another exceptional notion.  Birch Rock would foster cooperation rather than competition, and boys could rely on mutual support while they tackled personal goals. This notion helped Birch Rock stand out among Maine overnight summer camps.

Our traditional overnight camps are “unplugged”, to help campers experience friendships, outdoor discovery; develop their self-confidence and a sense of belonging. We aim to create a sense of community at camp, fostering creativity and mutual respect.
Set in the middle of around 940 acres of state forest, Tanglewood has a lot to natural spaces explore. The Ducktrap River is great for a refreshing dip (water games too!), we have a nearby canoeing site and often take trips to nearby beaches, hills in the wider Camden Hills State Park or our large organic garden. Campers stay in cabins with up to 8 other campers of similar age, and two counselors. Cabin groups get to do a lot of things together, including create a skit for a big campfire on the last evening of camp, and are where a lot of long-lasting friendships are made.
